It’s been a while since I’ve posted my sales numbers, so I thought I’d provide an update. It’s been just shy of seven months since I published my first novella on Amazon. I now have four books out, with a fifth on pre-order to be released a month from now. I enrolled my first two books in KDP Select for the first 90 days, then removed them from Select and distributed them via Smashwords at the end of that period.
So far, the prevailing wisdom that more books lead to more sales appears to be true. I have the first books in each of my series price-matched to free on Amazon and all other sales channels. Aside from a few promotions, I sold very few copies the first several months. When the second book in my Driftmetal series came out at the beginning of April, sales started picking up. Positive reviews have been trickling in for the first book in the series, which I think has helped to keep it on the first page in the Steampunk and Cyberpunk free categories. It’s maintained free downloads of around 10-20 copies a day on Amazon.
For the months of April and May, I averaged about one paid sale per day across all sales channels. It will be interesting to see what happens in July when the third Driftmetal book is released. More to come!
